Just a typical weekend in Minnesota...

During the concert in St. Cloud yesterday evening, Erick Lichte shared that this was just a typical Sunday in Minnesota: a Sunday filled with excellent choral music.  He's right about that - and it was a typical weekend filled with excellent choral music, with performances by Singers in Accord, the National Lutheran Choir, and the combined choirs of the Great River Chorale, the Youth Chorale of Central Minnesota, and the Two Rivers Chorale.  My only regret was not being able to attend the concert in Rochester presented by the Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota!

Concerts in Rochester and St. Cloud...

OK, I created this Website to find choral concerts quickly and easily, and, well, it's really working for me!

Today there are two wonderful concerts, in Rochester and in St. Cloud.  And with yesterday's concert by the National Lutheran Choir (the Schutz was magnificent!), it's been a great mid-Winter concert weekend!

The Honor Choirs of Southeast Minnesota will present VOICES: America in SongHere's the scoop on the concert and be sure to check out their Website (www.honorschoirs.org) for more information about this great organization in Rochester.

In St. Cloud, three choirs have combined to present Where Waters Meet. The Great River Chorale, the Two Rivers Chorale and the Youth Chorale of Central Minnesota have joined forces to celebrate water and choral music.  Check out the details here - and all three choirs have their Websites listed, too!

Special Concert Today: Out of the Depths

The National Lutheran Choir will be joined by members of The Rose Ensemble to present a rarely heard work by Schutz: Musicalische Exequien. For more details about this special concert called Out of the Depths, please visit the National Lutheran Choir Website here

Singers in Accord - a Great Program!

I thoroughly enjoyed the program presented by Singers in Accord – who collaborated with Nick Page, the Osseo Senior High School Choir and the North View Jr. High IB World School Choir.  The program, “The World in Six Songs” shared songs of Friendship, Love, Religion, Comfort, Knowledge and Joy, often with audience participation, which was delightful.

Featured Choir - Singers in Accord

It's wonderful to explore the wide variety of choral organizations around the state of Minnesota - so here's my first 'Featured Choir': Singers in Accord.  They have two concerts coming up this week - so be sure to check them out on the Choral Calendar!

Singers in Accord is uniquely structured as a singer‐led organization, dedicated to exploring our humanity through performances of culturally diverse choral music.

Spreading the news...

Sharing ChoralExpress is easy, all I have to do is say: you know, we need a common calendar for choral concerts...and everyone responds, yes, that's a great idea.  Philip Lawson, baritone in the King’s Singers, thinks it's a great idea.

Then I hand them a simple card that says:

ChoralExpress - Post Choral Concerts / Find Choral Concerts - www.choralexpress.com.

That's it. No phone number, no contact name, no email address - nothing else.

King's Singers and Concordia Choir

Although the 'Auditorium' was really the gymnasium converted into a 'concert hall' - the acoustics were actually very good.  The King's Singers opened the concert with English and Italian Madrigals which held us spellbound for nearly 30 minutes.  The Gesualdo set was particularly colorful and well delivered.

Getting started...

So ChoralExpress has been launched and I am thrilled to have so many Minnesota choirs registering within the first week.  Minnesota is a state full of so many wonderful choirs, all providing the training, concerts, music, vision, and inspiration we all have come to appreciate.
